Smooth and slightly sweet with warm notes of cinnamon that give it a cozy spiced finish. Deep ruby red color from bold Malbec wine and pomegranate juice with zero food coloring. Made ahead overnight so every ingredient has time to meld together into something genuinely incredible.
Pour entire bottle of Malbec into a large clear glass pitcher. Add pomegranate juice, fresh orange juice, Grand Marnier, and honey. Stir well until honey is completely dissolved.
Add thinly sliced orange rounds, fresh blackberries, and cinnamon stick. Stir gently to distribute fruit throughout.
Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours. Overnight is significantly better. The longer it sits the better it gets.
Fill skull glasses or Halloween icon glasses with ice. Pour sangria over ice making sure to get fruit into each glass.
Garnish with fresh orange slice, blackberries, cinnamon stick, rosemary sprig, and Halloween spiders. Add skeleton hand stirrer. Film before anyone touches it.
Mocktail version:
Combine sparkling grape juice, pomegranate juice, fresh orange juice, and honey. Add fruit and cinnamon stick. Refrigerate and serve the same way.
Notes
Make it the night before. Always. Overnight sangria is dramatically better than freshly made.
Use a bold dry red wine. Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, or Merlot. Avoid light wines.
Dissolve honey completely before adding fruit. Stir while still at room temperature.
Use fresh orange juice not bottled.
Keep fruit in when serving. The wine soaked fruit is the best part.
Film the pour from the pitcher into the skull glass.
Always make the mocktail version too!
Stores in the fridge up to 3 days. Gets better every day.
